LJ down! (Part 2) [Backdated]
Jan. 16th, 2005 06:07 pmA photo from yesterday's market tour:

Today was devoted to loading the spacecraft with a little over 1.5 metric tons of oxidizer. Interpretation support for this activity was provided by Maya and me. The полтинник was staffed by a skeleton crew, sufficient only to support the propellant loading (everyone else pretty much had the day off). Fire and medical emergency service trucks stood by outside the building.
It being a quiet day, and given that Maya and I were alternating between the control room (sitting with the engineers) and the empty interpretation office, there was plenty of opportunity for me to surf. I was a bit dismayed to find out - indirectly - that my account is on the MadCow server (it had to be, else something Really Bad had happened to my account), and that its restoration was going to take so long.
While I was waiting, I downloaded the trial version of the Star download manager and used it to get a fairly large ZIP file containing an implementation of damnsmalllinux that is about 128 MB expanded and fits (and more interestingly runs) on a USB-mounted drive. More later, when I actually see the software in action.
BTW, the reason I used the download manager was because conventional file download features in browsers expect the download to proceed immediately and in one session. Star supports the pausing and resumption of downloads (which is what I used it for in this case), as well as other possibly useful features (being able to set a time for downloading to commence, for example).
Cheers...
