I needed to look at my wristwatch to make sure it was day 4, as subjectively, the tempo has made it feel like one long day punctuated by a lot of naps. If I read the schedule correctly (and it may not be the right schedule, as it keeps changing), the "space head unit" - a fairly direct translation of "космическая головная часть" and comprising the satellite, the adapter system, and the upper stage - was tilted into the horizontal position this morning and closeout work is under way in preparation for radio channel tests tonight (I'll be supporting those), followed by fairing encapsulation tomorrow.

In an attempt to do a little sleep shifting last night, I watched Van Helsing, which may have been a better choice than, say, the test pattern on TV5, but not by much. Someone had mentioned that the special effects were pretty cool, but I found them fairly pedestrian. And if I am to maintain an even disposition, I will merely state that the ending was unsatisfying, and leave it at that.

Talking about movies, I may as well own up to having watched the AVP DVD the other night. Although in retrospect, it was head-and-shoulders better than the unfortunate Van Helsing, this was the least satisfying installment of the Alien franchise, in my opinion.

In any event, after turning off the idiot tube last night I retired to a sound sleep and managed to force myself to remain unconscious until after breakfast. Upon rising, I dressed and went downstairs and walked on the treadmill for one hour in the relative indoor comfort of the exercise room, covering 3.14 miles and burning 244 calories.

This is the second day in a row that I've done the treadmill, except that yesterday's session was a kind of on-again-off-again affair, because the electrical strip that feeds both treadmills kept tripping (Terry H., the DTSA rep, was jogging on the other machine). I managed to walk a little over a mile yesterday before abandoning the venture.

I listened to much of the second CD of the Franklin book while exercising and found that despite the entertainment, my attention started to flag around the half-hour mark, with the boredom becoming most noticeable after about 40 minutes of striding. I am also noticing that, for the kind of knowledge I want to take away from an encounter with this book, listening is not the most auspicious method. Given the options, however, je ferai de mon mieux.

Cheers...
