Baby the cat has taken to "talking" to me all the time she is not actively, say, sleeping, with demands that I follow her and minister to her every whim. Most of the time she wants a door opened. Or a can. The vet says she's not supposed to eat ordinary food, because of her age and her kidneys, but she won't give the kibbled food she's supposed to eat a second glance. Nor raw or cooked beef. Nor raw or cooked fish. Only a few mouthfuls of cooked lamb.

I've been trying to keep her in the garage overnight, as it affords her the opportunity to do a little hunting (mice) and me the opportunity to sleep. I forgot to do that last night, with the result that she woke me at around 5:30 am, with a "request" to be let outside. As I shut the door after her, I turned and saw a striking full moon that positively glowed in the west, a bright pink to contrast with the dark blue of the rolling terrain in that direction.

I got a couple of hours more sleep, I think, listening to some mp3's I found online of the choir of the Valaam Monastery, the sound of which I find amazingly soothing.
Боже, Царя храни!
Сильный, державный,
Царствуй во славу,
Во славу нам!
Царствуй на страх врагам,
Царь православный,
Боже, Царя, Царя храни!
Then it was up-and-at-em!

I got to the store around 9:30 am and stayed for the rest of the day. It was pretty slow, so I didn't get too stressed out. When I got home, though, I felt pretty tired, but I'm really trying not to nap after 2 pm, so I didn't. Eventually, I decided to walk "around the block," which almost winded me, but I only went as fast as I had to and didn't push it. (Reciting poems while walking, however, was not possible. I'm in pretty poor shape, endurance-wise.)

Did a bunch of cleaning downstairs, mostly throwing stuff out. Stayed away from work, as I have enough of that for tomorrow (though I do want to spend some time with the kids). In fact, my work "plate" will last me until Wednesday, at this rate (and I hope I didn't upset the nice, even strain I've developed this past week by "goofing off" today). We'll see.

The DSL at the house stopped working a little while ago, which I attributed to a loss of DNS capability (the error message said, for example, "LiveJournal not found"). Interestingly enough, Skype still worked when I tried calling my cell.

My desktop doesn't have a floppy drive, so I tried plugging in the USB drive that I got for my laptop, only to find out I need a driver. Not having the CD that came with the unit handy, I tried to find a copy online, but gave up after a few minutes. Though I am sure there's a copy I can download somewhere (I did find one site that would let me download a copy if I paid  them 5€), it's certainly not a site affiliated with Sony, which manufactured the hardware.

And that's too bad. There are so many hardware manufacturers out there that make it easy to download drivers for their products (SanDisk comes to mind here) - and it's such a win-win for everyone - that it's a shame you can click several dozen Sony links and bring up nothing but pages offering to sell you another unit.

Time to go take a rest; maybe watch some tube.

Cheers...
