No action from the translation angle, but when my dad and I visited my mom, she was awake for most of the 90 minutes we were there, drifting off only near the end of our visit. For most of the time, her attention was riveted on her roommate's television, which was tuned to the usual middle-of-the-day drivel. Bottom line: she's in much better condition today than she was yesterday.

Once we got back home, I took advantage of our proximity to the beach to go soak once more in salt water, the temperature of which is still bearable for swimming despite it being early October. Apart from myself, the beach was bereft of visitors today, leaving all the displayed prohibitions ("No Parking," "No Dogs Past This Point," "No Smoking," "No Swimming or Diving," etc.) with nothing to do, so to speak.

I'm planning to go into Manhattan tomorrow, to both visit a translation client and to get a free-of-HIV certificate for my upcoming visa renewal. It occurs to me that the last time I was in Manhattan was in mid-1996, when I provided interpretation support for the STS-76 and Mir 18 crews.

I specifically remember one highlight of the city tour during that assignment: visiting the top of the World Trade Center for the first and only time in my life, and I recall how curious it was to look down at helicopters and small aircraft flying below our vantage point at the top of whichever tower we were in.

Tomorrow is going to be mostly a subway kind of day, however, starting with an hour-long LIRR ride in the morning. I should probably go get some rest.

Cheers...
