My Houston client called with an assignment for rapid turnaround, and it put me to the test. Normally, given the stated deadline (midafternoon, my time), I'd have no problem dealing with the document, but when you consider that my dad's and my daily visit to my mom took a big chunk out of the allotted time, the result was a bit more pressure than I like to experience as far as work is concerned.

I did manage to complete the job, even making use of the references sent along with the document to be translated, but the old man - with his penchant for an orderly life - was breathing down my neck to get a move on. The document was sent to me as a PDF, and while I managed to translate it in "split screen" mode (Word in the upper half of myscreen; Adobe in the bottom half), I ended up firing up the Epson I bought last year in order to print the document so I could refer to it during my the final check. (I am happy to report that the Epson came back to life after nearly a year of idleness after only two ink flushes.)

My mom wasn't sleepy at all today when we arrived and spoke for most of the time my dad and I spent visiting. That's good news, in a way; the bad news was that she seemed fixated on eating some buckwheat, meaning that she spoke of nothing else. Repeating herself, naturally. It was kind of difficult to listen to her like that, but I did make a point of informing the nursing staff that my mom was talking nonstop about food, which may influence her care down the line, I don't know. Unless the old man has been speaking with my mom's doctor out of my earshot, there's been only one or two communications between the two since I've arrived over two weeks ago.

Tomorrow is my last full day in my parents' house this trip. Friday, I'm planning on leaving for the airport after visiting my mom. I am really looking forward to getting home.

Cheers...
