Last night, after the meeting broke up, the Russians ended up going out shopping with one of the Americans, who has pretty much been their chauffeur throughout the time everyone has been here. Part of the idea of going out to shop is to pick up things for back home, but mostly it is to make best use of per diem allowances.

Anyway, my new room is right in the middle of the wing where the Russians are - or were, as it is past 6 am - accommodated, and I heard them come back from their trip. I popped out of my room to ask Igor - in whose room I worked earlier today as we banged out the first draft of the protocol - if I could come retrieve the chair that was originally in my room. In the course of that activity, I was invited to join the gang for a late-ish meal, and I accepted.

Of course, the food was accompanied by drink, or maybe it was the other way around, I forget. As this was the last night, the larder was literally emptied and everyone, including myself, probably overate. But it was a pretty good time, nevertheless. I got back to my room around 11 pm and went to sleep.

I didn't sleep too well during the night, awakening at 4:30 am alert but tired. I forced myself to go back to sleep after about half an hour of tossing and turning, and woke up again about 20 minutes ago. I definitely feel better.

Things are also looking up in general, starting with my eyeglasses, which were retrieved by the housekeeping staff. They could only have been in my room, as I recall wearing them in the car on the way home from the restaurant Thursday night.

Anyway, I'm going to try to get the shorter of the two documents nailed before I leave town, which ought to give me a chance to stop by a store or two as I drive out.

Cheers...
