A largely computer-free day...
Jun. 3rd, 2006 11:32 pmExcept for this update and an attempt earlier to get registered with the power company that serves the house in Webster, I've been steering clear of the cyber side of life.
Between a couple of hours spent at the store and a lot of time cleaning (and mostly hiding junk) in anticipation of Mike and Karen coming over, it's still been a pretty busy day.
Everything came together fairly well. Before going off to the store, I boiled a chicken for the carbonara. After removing the chicken, I was left with a pot of perfectly good chicken stock, so I strained it through a cloth and let it simmer for a good long while with the remains of my boletes and a few reconstituted shiitake mushrooms. When the volume of the liquid had been reduced by about half, I added chopped onion, diced potatoes and sliced carrots.
The carbonara went well, except perhaps for the very last part. When I combined everything, the sauce sort of clumped and didn't exactly "coat" the linguine. Still, the dish was pronounced a success by all (including me, although this is the first time, in my memory, that I ever ate such a meal).
As was the case when LJ friends
kitiara and
abz6598 ate it, there was no overstuffed feeling afterward, even though the portions we ate were fairly generous. There is, in fact, a considerable amount left (I doubled proportions, figuring the original recipe was for two), which ought to make for a nice lunch tomorrow, after I clean up the aftermath of the dinner. My only real regret was that Galina wasn't here to share it with me.
My office looks a few hundred percent better, which is a good thing, as I plan to really put the shoulder to the grindstone tomorrow.
Cheers...
