The subject line is the best I can do for the Russian expression очередная пьянка, which occurred tonight on the occasion of the successful encapsulation of the satellite into the ascent unit. There are 12 days remaining until the scheduled launch of the satellite, and things only start to accelerate now that the satellite has been mated to the upper stage and cocooned in a fairing.

As I've doubtless mentioned before, these social events aren't entirely social for interpreters. At one point in the evening, one of the French managers rose to propose a toast, in French, which was interpreted into Russian by Olga F. and thereafter into English by me. The customer came up to us later as Olga and I were chatting and made a point of congratulating us on a job well done, which is always gratifying to hear. Even as short a chain as this of interpretation sometimes obtains the same results as the party game of "telephone" where some number of people try to whisper an oral message from one end of a line of people to another, often with hilarious results (and speaking the same language, I might add).

Work at the полтинник went nominally today, and I ended the day helping folks place seals on the fairing (though my help was hardly needed). The ascent unit will be transferred to the hall containing the launch vehicle soon, and tomorrow, my primary assignment will be to go out to the pad and help interpret for the check of the telemetry channel.

To do that, however, I need to get a good night's sleep, and I should probably commence that activity within the next few minutes.

Cheers...
