A quiet Sunday, "on the road"...
Sep. 24th, 2006 10:17 amSleep came with difficulty last night, as the line of weather before an advancing cold front lit up the skies and stimulated the hearing in the vicinity of the house. I managed to wake up at 3:57 am, just short of the time my BlackBerry was scheduled to emit a piercing ringing tone designed to make statues flinch. It's an effective way of making sure one gets up in the morning.
While waiting for the flight at Hobby, I tried to use the BlackBerry to access the Long Island Rail Road schedule, to no avail. I plan to repeat the attempt now that I am in the Atlanta airport, the flight from Hobby having been blessedly uneventful, unless you count the unfortunate incident with the fountain pen, and the fact that the coffee served by Delta had a faintly chemical aftertaste.
There's an hour or so before boarding starts, and I have to say that it's pretty convenient to be able to surf through one's phone. It occurs to me that - barring an absence of reception - I ought to be able to pull the same stunt at my dad's place instead of having to use the phone to dial up someone like NetZero (note to self: cancel the NetZero account). This will have the additional advantage of not going off-hook on the landline, which has traditionally been a hassle when visiting the parents (I mean, You Never Know Who Might Call™, y'know?).
* * * I've checked the LIRR schedule, and there are apparently a number of trains this afternoon I can take that'll get me home in good time. There's just time to make a couple of calls, and then I'm off to the gate.
Cheers...
