Moving along quietly...
Sep. 27th, 2006 03:45 pmI stayed up "late" last night (all the way to 10 pm) because I had trouble winding down after my mother's funeral, but slept well, awakening a few minutes before my alarm, but then snoozing until it went off. I finished off one of two translations (the one in the hopper never materialized) and sent it off, and then started in on the other one, a set of medical notes.
My heart just wasn't in it, though given the job's liberal deadline, it really doesn't have to be, much, for the immediate future.
Soon after my dad woke up and we had breakfast, I went for a walk, along my "usual" route to and from the beach. I was particularly on the alert to see if I could find any mushrooms growing along the way, as I had done an informal survey of my folks' property and found some old, small puffballs, a marvelously velvety polypore, and two small, heavily nibbled (but reasonably fresh) Suillis mushrooms.
The mushrooms I found today during my walk tended to be on the woody side (polypores growing from old trees), but I also found two beautiful specimens of mushrooms with a light purple tinge along the edge of the cap and light purple gills, and tried to take photographs of them, except that the AA batteries in my CoolPix were exhausted, so I only had a few seconds in which to take pictures each time I turned the camera on, after which the unit tried to charge the flash (despite the "no flash" setting), at which point, the "batteries exhausted" message would pop up and stay until the unit was turned off. (Grrr. This is almost as frustrating as leaving home without a charger for some device.)
I'm sure I took some kind of images, I just haven't had the time to look at them yet because I would like to get a bit further along in the medical translation before taking it easy today.
Apropos of which, I should probably go back and finish another half page of text. Then I'll take a rest.
Cheers...
