Calm and quiet, mostly...
Nov. 13th, 2006 04:27 pmI've been taking it easy, staying in the apartment and doing some translation. Asya, Alla's dachshund, has developed a sudden aversion to me that, I suspect, may be clothing based.
When I first arrived at the house, Asya ran back and forth as if she was herding buffalo (presenting a hard target to hit, had I the inclination) and barked for all she was worth, loud enough to give zombies headaches. I was wearing jeans and my green jacket. Once I had taken off my jacket and changed into a khaki pair of trousers, she seemed to quiet down, though she would not let me anywhere near her.
The next morning, I put on my jeans and she started yapping again, though between scratching her long carcass with my feet and rewarding her with tidbits from the table (yes, I'm a bad boy when it comes to stuff like that), I almost got her to jump up in my lap by the end of the day.
This morning, I put on my jeans and a gray tee shirt, and the dog went absolutely nuts. The whole running-back-and-forth routine with the barking. She even tried to bite me.
I am told that she was rescued from the apartment of an old lady who had died, but only after a few days of being cooped up with the corpse. On the way home with the dog, Alla tells me that she allowed the dog off the leash, at which point the dog went berserk and had to be recaptured by effectively using a coat as a net, and that she had been bitten several times on the hands during the process.
She must really like this dog.
I'm betting Asya had a really bad experience with a guy wearing a gray tee and jeans. I'm going to test that hypothesis by wearing a maroon shirt over the tee when I next emerge from this room.
In other news, I've called and gotten the phone number of the driver who's going to pick me up tomorrow morning at 7:30 am for the trip to the airport. I have yet to check the weather forecast; I hope there's no snow or other potentially lousy weather to get in my way tomorrow. I've also got to repack all my stuff.

UPDATE: I donned the maroon shirt and changed into beige dockers. When next Asya saw me, there was no aggressive behavior on her part. Hmmm...
