The school of hard knocks...
Jan. 3rd, 2007 06:20 pmThe money I wired from the US to France left my account on 12/28 and arrived on 1/2. Where it was in between is anybody's guess, though I do expect it have been having a good time between 12/30 and 1/1, inclusive. When it arrived, the receiving bank charged a whopping fee, which makes me wonder whether my bank sent the wire in dollars or euros (if the former, then the fee - exhorbitant though it may be - is explainable), or whether European banks are just fee-crazy.
I got to sleep around 11:30 pm last night and was up pretty early today. For most of the day, I felt as if nothing could compel me to sit down and finish the translation due tomorrow short of a big, burly ape equipped with a baseball bat. I still sort of feel that way, but time is getting short, and I received more work, due Friday, so I guess I ought to get some motion going.
I did a bunch of clutter-busting today, enough to where you can see a difference (at least on the surface of my desk, with a minimum of collateral damage resulting from moving stuff to new, different locations). Then Galina and I went to the Sam's Club, where we strugged with one of modern life's major questions: How to justify buying - or not buying - stuff there as A Better Way To Do Things™.
Some things, such as inkjet cartridges sold in sets, simply make financial sense ($60 for a set of cartridges for my Epson RX500, as opposed to $70 or more in most office supply stores). Other things, such as huge amounts of meat, might make sense if we had a reasonably sized fridge, and might not if such abundance is reflected in overconsumption. And so, as the man says, it goes.
So now, it's off to cook something for dinner and then back to the grind to finish off the document due tomorrow morning, which ought not take too long.
Cheers...
