Jun. 30th, 2007

I just heard the first "practice" reports of the upcoming 4th of July holiday, which tends to be a pretty big deal around these parts. I seem to recall my first 4th in this house was back in 2000, shortly after creating my account (7 years and 2 days ago, BTW... happy belated b-day to my L-Jay!), during which the racket from exploding bottle rockets and other small fireworks became quite annoying.

I just got back from a run up to Natalie's old apartment, which she requested I make to fill up my rental car with her stuff and bring it down to Webster. She filled her car as well (and enlisted her roommate's help, too) and has gone back to do a once-and-for-all emptying of the place.

The day got off to a slow start. At around 4 am, Shiloh commenced whining in her crate, which woke pretty much everyone. I, however, have developed a knack for falling back asleep; Natalie has not. In the end, I sort of tiptoed around the house for the first half of the day so she could catch up on her sleep, and the day really started when we set off for my doctor's appointment, at 12:45 pm.

Unfortunately, the appointment wasn't to be, as the doctor had been called away to an emergency. We rescheduled my time for Thursday evening. On the way home, Natalie and I bought a vacuum cleaner, for which I will probably spend time in Hades, but the air-sucking mechanism we had available to us was a horrid contraption that stank and - I suspect - spread more dust around than it collected. With two animals in the house (besides the human occupants), a good vacuum cleaner is pretty much a necessity.

The bed in the master bedroom got moved, and I even managed to move the matching dresser from Natalie's bedroom to the master, and even do some laundry before settling down (hah!) to get some translation under my belt.

The plate is piled with about 7300 words, of which less than 1000 have been translated. The whole kit and kaboodle is due Monday, and I plan to do another 1000 words or so - to let the shrimp I just ate (criminy, they were good... and big!) digest a bit - before hitting the hay. Some what may, however, there will be no lallygagging tomorrow!

Cheers...
