Recovery day...
Jan. 24th, 2008 09:48 pmI got a call yesterday from the lawyer about the estate, which basically turned today into a dealing-with-estate-issues kind of a day. I also made it a field-day kind of an occasion by getting rid of various boxes of miscellany (i.e., reducing the volume of said stuff - done while dealing with estate issues - and then, um, hiding whatever was left). So much area was cleared, I even broke out the vacuum. The place looks almost capable of accommodating guests.
This basically made me unavailable for work, so when I got two calls today for short turnaround, rush jobs, I declined them both. One of the offers came from the lowest-paying of my clients, who doesn't believe in rush rates, so that refusal was easy (plus, the call came in about two hours ago), while the other came at the height of the day's craziness.
The job that came in yesterday on the heels of sending out the OCR Nightmare weighs in at something under 3,000 source words, and although it's due Monday, I plan to work it tomorrow. Another, shorter job came in 6 hours ago, and I'll likely accept it tomorrow morning.
I plan to get a good night's sleep tonight. Last night, I couldn't fall asleep until about 2:30 am, which didn't stop Shiloh from waking me up at the usual appointed hour of 7 am (it's uncanny: over the past week or so, her wakeup time hasn't varied by more than 4 minutes of 7 am sharp).
