Back again...
Apr. 2nd, 2008 08:07 pmI slept in, sort of, which is to say that Galina let me stay in the sack until 9 am. And while I enjoyed the lazy start to the day, I ended up chasing my tail for a while in the morning.
The first thing to do was to send off the short item that I had finished yesterday. I had spoken to my client about it, and actually had a question about one of the central terms in the job, but I figured any feedback I'd get would come after I had sent in the assignment.
Well, it didn't turn out that way. I had an email from my client in my inbox when I sat down to work, with an answer to my question. I incorporated the change, checked my work one more time, and, in my haste, I sent back the original Russian.
Go, me!
One of these days, I will expound at length why subject-matter experts are often the worst people of whom to ask terminology questions. The short version is this: subject-matter experts are often too close to the technical end of what they do to have given any serious thought to terminology, which they basically sort out as they go along, stopping to think about what to call stuff only when they get into trouble.
Anyway...
Then I did another short item for the prospective new client before settling down to do some substantive chopping at the 40K Job. It was about here that my TM kicked into overdrive, allowing me to finish 2600 source words in time to send the job off by mid-afternoon. Then I nailed another 1500 words of the job, finishing a few minutes ago.
The plan for the "rest" of the evening is to take it easy. Tomorrow morning, I need to do a review and the figures for the item due in the morning, check and send the thing I just completed, and then launch into some more of the 40K Job.
Right now, dinner calls. Then it's off to do... nothing for the rest of the night.
