Then again, I may call it a night.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, because I'm 1250 words short of my self-imposed quota for the day. The reason for my indecision is that, on the one hand, my quota was not unreachable, so there is some disappointment on my part, there, yet on the other hand, considering what all went on today, it's something of a miracle that I got this far, capisce?

Between 10:40 am (which was the earlierst I could get started on translation) and 4 pm, I managed to translate the first 1000 words of the day. In between, there was a trip to see a neighbor who was a freind of my parents, a trip to Starbucks, and fussing with a broken light fixture in the basement. At about 4:30, I took a late nap, but I think I could drift off about now with little problem.

By 10 pm, I had managed to knock off another 1500 words or so, and a few minutes ago, I blasted through to the end of a table, which accounts for another 1250 or so words committed to oxide.

Since the job is due at noon on Monday, I could let my shortfall slide and make a hard charge tomorrow to make my quota, which would effectively defer the shortfall to Monday morning, and as I type this sentence, I think I know that's the path I'm going to choose.

In other news, I managed to upgrade proust's Linux partition to Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04), which was formally released last Thursday. I have nothing else to say about it since I haven't had an opportunity to do anything with the distro except reboot it after the upgrade, which took a few hours, mostly devoted to downloading over 1000 packages.

I've been adding people to my Twitter feed if their description suggests that they work in the translation racket. One of folks I'm following is a Japanese living in Singapore. On a whim, I just fed one of their 'twits' into Google's translation engine. This is what I got:
だれか、東京ディズニーランド版も作って!

Someone, Tokyo Disneyland version also makes!
Obviously, this is not "ready-for-prime-time" prose, but I'm thinking it might mean something like, "Dude! There's a Disneyland in Tokyo!"

(I have taken the liberty of asking the poster to repost the text in English...)

In the meantime, I think I'm going to wind things up, go bring some water to Galina (who is probably asleep), take Shiloh out for a short constitutional intended to reduce her overnight liquid content, and then hit the sack.

Cheers...
