Having my cake...
May. 10th, 2008 11:41 pmThe basic work plan I devised based on the "state of the plate" involved translating 3,000 source words per day today through Tuesday, and I wasn't sure that was going to do the trick. Add in a need to go to the South Shore sometime during the day to retrieve a pair of sunglasses that are of sentimental value, and things get interesting.
Fortunately, the long pole in the tent, an item of nearly 5000 words, turned out to be one of those straightforwardly written documents that are my bread and butter, and it's all done (except for the obligatory despeckling). Theoretically, I'm ahead of the game, but I think all I've really done is dispel the part where I say "I wasn't sure that was going to do the trick."
On the way home, we stopped at the Home Depot EXPO store near Carle Place/Westbury. The place really does have a tremendous selection of items, but their prices are completely unrealistic.
Afterward, we stopped at the Carle Place Diner, where we enjoyed a filling meal (so much so that we skipped dinner). I ordered a Reuben that, in retrospect, was more sauerkraut than anything else, but it was big enough for me to split with Galina (and we took her order to go).
And besides all that, we had a guy - a Polish fellow with an engineering degree from an institute in Kiev - over to explain the advantages of a relatively new technology that he offers in his business, which involves covering old bathroom walls and applicances such as bathtubs with a hard molded acrylic. It all looked pretty good in the showroom, but pretty much everything does.
Time to hit the sack. If tomorrow turns out to be as... productive a day as today, then the pressure will be manageable once the week starts anew.
Cheers...
