Uncertainty...
Sep. 13th, 2008 06:15 pmThe important news from Houston is that Natalie is okay, but I never doubted that outcome. There is still no news about our real estate down there, but there's not a whole lot that can be gained by worrying (or worse, watching television for "news").
I never realized how many different lengths of 16-inch chainsaw chains there can be. I found two of them during the cleanup a little while ago and decided to figure out which belongs on the rather forlorn Homelite saw that was simpering quietly under the work table for so long.
Both chains had "16" stamped every so often along the links, though it was obvious that one chain was longer than the other. The shorter chain, which has one link with "S53" stamped on it, was too short. Its cousin, with "S59" stamped on one of the links, was too long.
I hoped that the Ace hardware store down the road carried the "Goldilocks" chain (i.e., the one that was "just right").
There was, indeed, an "S56" chain on sale, and the only difference I could see in the packaging was that the S56 chain was for a 16-inch chainsaw, while the S59 chain was for a chainsaw with a 16-inch cutting edge, which is apparently a whole different proposition.
I bought the S56 and it fits perfectly. Now, all I have to do is find some chainsaw fuel (gas mixed with oil) and some chain oil, and hope that the spark plug is still shiny.
But that's for tomorrow. Maybe.
Cheers...
