The Samsonite we picked up in Durango a little while ago was missing a plastic foot on the roller end, so I cannibalized the feet from my old American Tourister and managed to mount them on the Samsonite with very little trouble. In fact, the screw holes matched exactly. In looking at the guts of the two bags, they look very similar - I wouldn't be surprised to find out they came out of the same factory, or off the same drawing board. (Duh! It turns out Samsonite acquired American Tourister in 1993!)

When I picked up the Samsonite to move it so I could start putting clothes in it, I noticed something strange: the bag weighed a ton!

(Speaking figuratively, natch, because the scale upstairs says the bag weighs only about 16 pounds. Still, that's almost 1/3 of the 50-lb weight allowance for the bag!)

I weighed the American Tourister, too, and it came in as the clear winner, at about 10 pounds. It may not be as functional as the Samsonite (which has separate compartments for shoes, etc.), but it sure is lighter!

Anyway, the feet are back where they started, and the bag is packed.
I also managed, in between picking shirts and other stuff to take with me, to sit down and do the last item due by COB tomorrow, which is a relief, because the translation had me referring to two other rather large documents. (While I can display them conveniently here on the auxiliary monitor attached to webster, I wouldn't have been able to do that in the car.)
The mindmap I made yesterday turned out to be pretty useful, and I didn't miss many items.

While packing, I checked items off in red as I put them in a bag that's going in the car, circling some items in green if I was still using them (e.g., my USB keyboard, which I'm using right now to type this post).

I penciled in some additional items, expanding the list to include stuff to take for Shiloh and luggage items.

All in all, though, I am about 90% ready to go (and I figure most of the remaining 10% is mental).

Cheers...

First, the key to the car gets lost, which makes us realize our spare is for some other car. We almost give up the effort to leave, until I start feeling around with one of those gripper gizmos under the console, and find the keys.

Then a bank appointment turns into a marathon session because the person being helped when we get there takes forever to get her business done (and the only officer that does what we need is helping that person).

...anyway...

Now I can't find two of the files I thought I had taken with me (I mean, I know I took them, but where are they?).

Gaak!

And we're only in Denver.

Cheers...
