Marking time, it seems...
Nov. 1st, 2008 08:08 pmAside from having packed 17 boxes of books in the den last night, there doesn't seem to be much forward motion in the "getting ready to leave Dodge" scenario that's imminent.
I selected the clothes I'll be taking to Kazakhstan, and packed them, and am happy to note that my bag weighs less than half my allowed 50 lb, with plenty of room inside. I'm sure the rest of the volume will be taken up with something, not to worry.
I also took Shiloh for a simply magnificent walk. The air had that slight scent of autumn, the sun was out, the leaves were yellow and orange and red, I was overly warm in my jacket, and Shiloh was having a ball. I walked down to the beach and then up the other road that leads there, out to the main drag in our neck of the woods, and then home. A nice piece of exercise all around.
We went out to the "Olive Garden" for lunch, deciding to split one of their entrées (the "Tour of Italy," featuring fettucine alfredo, lasagne, and chicken parmesan, if memory serves) instead of ordering two of them. It was a good decision, as we were pretty full when we left to do some shopping at Costco (more boxes, and jeans for my trip). Nice food, though.
Galina has started putting things like towels and linens in boxes. I've gone through boxes downstairs, looking for items I want/need, with not much luck. I can't even reliably start to remove stuff from my impromptu office, since I pretty much need everything in it (except the bed, but for the fact it's supporting some of that stuff I need).
I'm going to go upstairs right now and finish emptying out the bookshelves and the closets. Tomorrow, I need to sit down and expeditiously do my expense reports and address the Limbo Job (the one that's "almost done") for Monday.
