Catching up...
Feb. 14th, 2009 09:19 amAs I was coming up the beach yesterday toward the hotel, I noticed a seagull acting a little strange off to one side of my path, as if dancing around some point. I changed my course to investigate and found a crab to be object of the seagull's attention. The crustacean was at the crab equivalent of Defcon 1, eye stalks and claws extended, keeping a wary eye on the bird, until I showed up.
Then I became the bad guy.
I looked at the crab, and then at the water line, about 50 yards away, and decided to perform the feisty critter a service by placing it in the Sea of Cortez, out of reach of the seagull, but I wasn't prepared to shoo it all the way to the water. I had to pick it up.
Using one of my sandals to immobilize it, I grasped the crab with thumb and middle finger on the top and bottom of its carapace and started to walk toward the water. The crab reached down, um, between its legs with a claw and pinched my finger. I dropped the crab.
Eventually, I got the crab back into the water, but I now carry a souvenir of that encounter, right at the point where the nail meets the finger. Ouch!
* * * It's that time again. LJ Idol is fixing to thin the field down to 23 contestants this week, and the early poll returns show me well back in the pack. I'd be obliged if you'd check out my LJ Idol entry for this week and then visit this week's poll and help me out. (While there, check out some of the other entries, too! There's some excellent writing there!)
Cheers...
