An overall feeling of oppression has plagued me since rising, and I am doing my best to counter it. One activity that always seems to lift my spirits is invoicing, and it's even more effective when there is outstanding work to invoice.

This was the case this morning - heavens, I only just noticed it's after 11 am! - and was not without its bumps. Despite my best efforts at organizing my translation work, there are times that I don't "process" small assignments the way I should (which is to say, to follow a fairly simple procedure to create a directory for the assignment, and then populate it with the source document, references, work authorizations).

Anyway, after deleting a wrong directory (then wondering where it went, and then finding it and restoring it), I finally got back on track and wrote some soul-soothingly satisfying invoices.

In the "lies, damn lies, and statistics" department, I sat down to see how I've been doing in terms of billings these past three months, and had to dig really hard to figure out the "balance" between February and March (considering that part of the work I invoices in March was done in February).

My first try was not heartening, as it showed that, with 50% of March gone, I was only 20% of the way toward my monthly "nut." After sharpening my pencil and redoing the figures, I came away with a somewhat better picture. Looking at all the numbers right now, I would have been better off simply looking at raw monthly totals.

In other news, I thought I had written a pretty good piece for last week's LJ Idol essay, but could not shake the feeling (where it came from, I don't know) that it might not pass muster in a "contestant only" vote, so I was both gratified and a little surprised to have survived into what Gary calls the "Elite Eight."

It has became pretty clear to me how to put a very personal spin on this week's topic ("Stuck with Luddites again"), but it didn't stop me from thinking about another half dozen approaches to the topic. Now, I just have to find the time...

Speaking of which, daylight is now combusting merrily like nobody's business.

Cheers...
