What a day!
Oct. 22nd, 2009 08:43 pmRain had been predicted for this morning, and when it hit, at around 4 am in our neck of the woods, it fell with such ferocity that Shiloh started to growl threateningly and bark. By the time I left for the telecon and my assignment at JSC, the rain had sort of tapered off into a steady drizzle-plus.
By the time I got to the parking lot (suitably far away from any building entrance if one does not enjoy the perk of having an assigned spot next to one of said buildings), the rain had intensified to the point where visibility was nil even with the wipers set to rapid continuous operation.
I waited as long as I could for the rain to taper off, but it didn't, and by the time I had traversed the 200 or so yards from the car to the entrance of my building, everything below where my jacket came to an end was wet, and I mean soaking wet.
In fact, the last time I was this wet on the job was after fording a waist-deep stream during a training exercise in the Marines.
I spent a few minutes prior to my telecon in the men's room, wringing out my trousers, then spent the rest of the day in damp discomfort, squishing as I walked.
I shall have to make a point of never leaving the house during inclement weather without a change of clothing in a gym bag.
The requirements for support for my post-telecon assignment had changed since last I had done the job. The new duties include a lot more interpretation, which is not a big deal, but overall, the day was pretty stressful on the vocal cords.
I need to wind down. Tomorrow's assignment has been changed since the end of today's work day. Twice. Shorter hours, too.
<sigh>
It's just like the good old days.
Cheers...
