Strange Tuesday...
Dec. 29th, 2009 09:05 pmI got a couple of small jobs for immediate turnaround this morning, which I dutifully completed and sent. Then I decided to go with Galina to visit Natalie, who was applying elbow grease at her new digs. And although our ever-lovin' daughter is technically "nearby" - particularly when you consider how far away Colorodo is - it's still a 120-mile round trip between Here and There, so it's not just a casual thing to stop by and visit.
On the other hand, it's something of a treat, as Natalie's place is just a few blocks away from the Phoenicia Specialty Foods store, which offers a selection of food you just won't find at your run-of-the-mill Kroger or Albertson's. Galina and I stopped by in both directions, picking up пельмени (dumplings) and ряженка (fermented milk), not to mention tabouli mix and baba ghannouje (a Middle Eastern eggplant dip).
I got a call from a client of yore, for whom I did some software work back in 2004, revising a Perl script to incorporate coupon discounts for online purchases. It turns out the code for coupon discounts either (a) no longer works or (b) never worked to begin with (which I find hard to believe), and while I'm happy to spend a couple of neighborly hours to figure out what might be going on, I haven't really touched production code since about that time, and no longer maintain a server with the requisite setup for testing. Hopefully, I'll be able to avoid any ugliness or bad feelings with respect to this. I have emails out asking for additional information.
I've got three relatively small jobs on the plate, and plan to address them tomorrow.
In its own perverse way, it's been a long day. Time to get some rest.
Cheers...
