After spending a frustrating two hours invoicing work I've done over the past two weeks - I need to come up with a system, and not one that requires me to invoice stuff immediately - I recalled the immortal words of Victor Kiam, who liked his Remington shaver so much, he bought the Remington company! (This was around 1979, before many LJers were even born!)

In my case, since the inbox was not brimming over with new work, I liked yesterday's mostly successful self-induced computer "fast," that I decided to repeat the feat today (at least as far as keeping track of email was concerned).

I installed and tried using doubleTwist, but it steadfastly refuses to recognize any of my iPod devices.

Feh.

I tried using Boxee a few minutes ago, but it doesn't act any different here in Pagosa than it did in Houston: just a steady stream of yellow dots materializing on the screen, in anticipation of something, while the control panel counts off seconds.

Then, too, there are four-score-plus LJ Idol entries to read and vote on in a contestant-only vote.

Like quite a number of other contestants, I interpreted this past week's assignment from On High as involving yet another "intersection," where the idea is for contestants to pair up and write entries on specified topics that "intersect" to some degree or other. The added wrinkle with such an assignment has to do with the voteL who stays and who goes depends on the combined vote tallies of the paired contestants.

As it turns out, this past week was not an "intersection," but simply an "invitation" to link up with an "LJ Valentine" partner write entries on a pair of topics. Be that as it may, [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna and I managed a very nice intersection, if I say so myself.

Personally, it was a difficult thing for me to do, because I don't really see myself as a very strong writer of fiction, but even after several days, I can revisit what I and [livejournal.com profile] agirlnamedluna wrote and not flinch while reading my entry.

I watched Les Rivières Pourpres on Netflix last night. I really wish I could get hold of the screenplay, because only about half the dialog was subtitled, and my fundamental problem in French comprehension lies with colloquial spoken French. Still, while not of a caliber that would make me want to watch it again and again, the movie was worth the time spent watching it. My hunch to spend the time based on the presence of Jean Reno in the cast was a good one.

The day was not entirely without incoming work. I got a file a little while ago. I think I shall go see what it's going to take to translate it when I get up in the morning.

Cheers...
