Back into the breach...
May. 3rd, 2010 10:38 amThe town trip yesterday went well. It wasn't entirely a day off, because there was some unofficial support to provide to other folks who were going into town, but there was an opportunity to stop by the Palermo Pizzeria for some refreshment and slices of their trademark "Godfather" and "Palermo" pizzas. What they lack in size they deliver in taste.
The market was bustling, as usual, or perhaps at even a higher tempo, since it's a holiday weekend. I made my rounds quickly after helping some folks find what they were looking for, and then set off to talk with the folks at the Beeline office.
They were friendly enough, but not awfully helpful. It turns out the USB modem requires reprogramming, in addition to a new SIM card (a small card with a smart-card interface that holds all the information associated with a phone number).
As far as what may (or may not) have transpired with Beeline in Moscow, I will have to call them directly. The email Beeline sent in response to my inquiry provided a link that resulted in a 404 error, so I am not encouraged.
I did pick up a local cell number, though, with a plan that lets me phone anywhere within the CIS at less-than-astronomical rates. The amount of usage remaining after activating the plan isn't much, so until I get a refill card (the next time I visit town) I plan to use the number primarily for emergency communications in places where the radios we've been issued don't work so well.
The main team arrives today, and then the pace of work will ramp up another notch.
Cheers...
