A price that must be paid...
May. 21st, 2011 09:54 pmOne of the nasty parts about some translations is getting into a situation where you're spouthing gibberish because, well, that's what it says in the original.
I'm finding I am doing a bit more than I usually do with the current project, specifically: doing research into the factual basis of the author's statements, as when he announces that Schbert's "Trout Quintet" is part of the composer's 9th symphony ("The Great").
But that's not really a bother. I can almost say I take pleasure in it, as I've learned a few things along the way (such as how the Adagio for Strings by Albinoni almost certainly wasn't written by Albinoni, but by a 20th century admirer of Albinoni's). What bothers me is the freewheeling pseudo-I-don't-know-what that reminds me of a book I read a long time ago by Jeremy Rifkin, which argued that excessive thinking served ony to accelerate the "heat death" of the universe.
In other news, Huntur is sick, which is a shame (though we did get an opportunity to chat on Skype).
Ah, well... time to hit the sack. More pseudo-etc. tomorrow, no doubt.
Chrres...
