Blossoming Skype...
May. 28th, 2011 06:48 pmGalina and I have been using Skype as our go-to means of keeping in touch, mostly because we can see each other using the video feature, and I have to admit, it does add to the experience. And we can see not just each other, but the wireless nature of the connection to our respective computers lets us show the party at the other end things like the blooming azaleas in New York or the sleeping cats in Pagosa. Or the back of the new television set in New York, so that I can do a little long-distance technical setup support.
Normally, I do not keep Skype running on my machine, but since Galina is in New York, I have been, and I'm noticing just how widespread my audio "correspondence" is becoming. Over the past few days, I've spoken at length with people in Australia, New York, Moscow, Lyon, and Beijing. (And the video connection to Beijing was marvelous!)
* * * Parts 2/4 and 3/4 of the art project are sent. The proposal due this morning is sent. Currently the plate holds one more proposal (~3500 words) and the last 1700 words of part 4/4 of the art project.
* * * It looks as if someone may have finally passed the word, because the temperatures are starting to climb again (even if the wind is blowing pretty strongly). I spent some time outside this morning digging out concentrations of cactus whose spines hurt like the dickens when they pierce your skin (which happens often enough when the wind breaks off pieces of the cactus and scoots them along like miniature ninja missiles). I began to feel the heat of the sun on my exposed skin after only a few minutes of activity. I thought positive thoughts and tried to enjoy the vitamin D rush.
Drew and the family are down at Navajo lake with friends, helping to "break in" (I'm pretty sure I heard the "in" part) a new motorboat. As I understand the plan, they're going to camp out down there tonight, which means the one practical opportunity we'll have to get together in the near future will be on Monday itself.
Well, it's something to look forward to. :)
Cheers...
