In New York...
Jun. 4th, 2011 08:18 pmDrew came over at the appointed hour of 4:30 am and we took off for Durango, with the idea of getting to the airport at 5:30, an hour before the flight was scheduled to leave. What I didn't count on was eveyone else booked on the same flight having the same intention, which meant standing in an usually long check-in line.
I managed to grab a UPS box that had been delivered for Galina out of the Infiniti before getting in Drew's car, but realized too late, while standing in the check-in line, that neither I nor any of my fellow passengers possessed any implement sharp enough to open the box, so I opened my bag, made an impromptu depression in the clothes I had packed, jammed the box in, and said a little prayer as I zipped the bag shut.
The layover in Denver was eventless, up until boarding. As is the vogue, boarding the Frontier flight began with an invitation for those who had upgraded to the seats with extra legroom to board first, along with any frequent flier members at the gold, silver, bronze, iridium, copper, zinc, aluminum, or lead levels. Then came the call for families with childen and individuals who needed some extra time to board. A contunuous stream of people materialized to present their boarding passes.
The gate agent then began his next announcement with the words, "Before we go on to begin our general boarding...," at which point I wondered Who's left?, whereupon the agent continued: "...I'd like to invite passengers with no carry-on items for the overhead bins to board." This doesn't make all that much sense to me, because in my experience, it's the doofuses who park both their carry-on and their sizeable "personal bag" in the overhead that make life hell for the last passengers to board.
Anyway, the flight to Laguardia was also uneventful. We landed a bit early, but it took almost 15 minutes before we folk in the back of the aircraft could deplane. Luggage killed another 30 minutes.
More about the rest of the day tomorrow. Bottom line: I'm glad to be with Galina again.
I'm also happy to see a bed, even if it's only 8:15 in the evening.
Cheers...
