Pentecost Monday...
Jun. 13th, 2011 09:07 pmThe Monday after Pentecost is apparently a public holiday in France, and the shops were as closed today as they were yesterday.
I took the opportunity of rising early (8 am) to start on another slug of work while Galina snoozed. By 1 pm, I had completed 3,000 source words of the current project, at which time Galina and I got ready to go out and walk around again.
We walked down to where we had picked up the #84 bus the other day, but it was out of service today, so we walked down Blvd Malesherbes to the Ste. Marie Madeleine church, and then down Rue Royale to the Place de la Concorde. Across from the church, I paused to snap a photo of a some door art in an arch above a door.

Once at the square, Galina and I got aboard the #72 bus, which drove along the Seine, past the Eiffel Tower, out toward the suburbs. We had to use another ticket each to get back into town, where we left the bus at the Quai du Louvre and then crossed the street to look at the outside of the Louvre museum. Galina stopped for a moment and I snapped a photo.

We strolled around for a bit and ended up eating lunch at the McDonald's across the Rue de Rivoli from the Louvre. Some people, I tell you, will do anything for an air-conditioned dining room.
From the McDonald's we walked home, along the Rue d'Echelle, hanging a half-left onto the Ave de l'Opéra. As we approached the Opéra proper, I was fascinated by the shining golden statuary art atop the building.

From the Opéra, we walked along the Rue Auber and Blvd Haussman to the Place St. Augustin, which is basically back home again. Along the way, Galina and I shared a lot of laughs, even though it had started to rain.
Cheers...
