On to the next phase...
Jul. 31st, 2011 09:24 pmToday turned out to be fairly productive, from the translation perspective, but I'm afraid nothing much will keep July from being a dismal month from the perspective of billings. It won't be as bad as January or February—for some reason, I keep thinking January was the worst month this year, but it was only a close second to February in that department—but it won't be far off. The pain is ameliorated somewhat by the fact that I have about 40,000 words left on that ever-loving "plate."
I got the house in shape for showing yesterday, and didn't have a chance to use it much before being informed that someone would be by today to take a look at it as well. No complaints.
I was feeling fairly adventurous, and so, for the hour or so window during which the house was to be shown, I took Shiloh and went in search of the elusive "thousand year egg" over near Bellaire and the beltway, where the street signs are displayed in English and Chinese. Unfortunately, that appetizer remains elusive, as the only place I could find it (per the Internet) had none to sell. I made do with marinated Chinese eggplant, spicy pork liver, and some lo mein (that looked suspiciously like spaghetti).
I watched a moive on Netflix titled Everyman's War, and thought it did a good job of telling its story. Yesterday, I tried to watch some other films (e.g., Valhalla Rising) and gave up in disgust. The night before, I watched Daniel Auteuil in The Lost Son and Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher in Killers. For some unfathomable reason, they offset each other well, with the latter sufficiently wacky to kill the "took a dip in a sewer" feeling that resulted from watching the former.
Generally speaking, either films are being churned out these days with all the thoughtfulness one associates with taking a dump in the woods, or I am becoming more cantankerous with age. Or maybe it's both. It's a shame the iPad version of Netflix only lets you search by movie title, as there are a number of movies out there I'd like to pick out on the basis of actor. Then again, there's nothing to prevent me from doing a little research beforehand, say, on IMDB.
A new week and a new month start tomorrow. Galina and Alla will be setting off for Texas. I'm ready.
Cheers...
