Back to the face...
Aug. 7th, 2011 09:21 pmLost yesterday's bet with myself. Not complaining.
Spent most of the day laying down 2,000 words of the 40K Job, with very few of those words being numbers. Most of the time spent was actually spent trying to normalize terminology, which in my case involves reading from a lot of different sources in order to get a feel for the language of structural steel analysis so that I might match descriptions instead of terms, per se.
Generally speaking, I've found that Russian terminology related to structural steel isn't all that good in dictionaries—though it occurs to me I might have a suitable dictionary in Pagosa—nor does such terminology find its way into many parallel translations on the 'net, so about the only way to find out what something might be is to understand a description of it. (None of these methods are ironclad, by the way.)
Dinner this evening was at the Outback on Westheimer between (broadly speaking) Gessner and the Beltway. I was gratified to see that the prices had not gone up all that much, if at all. I had a medium steak, Galina ordered the small steak with crab legs, and Alla had the mahi-mahi (complete with explanation of how mahi-mahi is not dolphin-as-in-Flipper).
Cheers...
