While there is work to be done, it's actually not of the forget-everything-else-and-get-to-it variety, so Galina and I were able to actually drive around a bit this morning. In doing so we ran across something that bills itself as a "Farmer's Market" down by the hardware store and nursery at the intersection of Piedra Road and Highway 160.

As market's go, it wasn't much. A couple of stands actually selling produce, a booth with baked goods, a booth selling naturally raised pork, chicken, and beef, and a guy playing an amplified guitar under an awning in the corner. We picked up some items you don't normally see in the City Market (e.g., pickling cucumbers) and some spinach, mushroom, and Swiss cheese quiche (for a late breakfast).

I put up the cukes with some salt and spices to create what ought to turn out to be tasty treats in a couple of days; not quite Russian малосольные огурцы ("soft-salted" cucumbers) and certainly not pickled cucumbers, but tasky nonetheless. I also cooked a pound of butter down to ghee, but didn't get to the making of ginger ale or more kombucha. My bad.

On the other hand, after catching a segment of the hulu series A Day In The Life focusing on Tim Ferris, I became motivated enough to go take another look at his book on health and diet (The 4-Hour Body), which in turn is making me reconsider my intake of sugar, especially since my weight has been creeping back up since my post-recent-flu-like-illness low of 221. I'll probably continue to make and drink the kombucha, but there's no good reason—aside from being able to say I did so—for making my own ginger ale. (I mean, making it implies I'm going to (help) consume it, right?)

The next article I'm working on has to do with metalworking during what's called the Great Migration that took place in Eurasia during the middle of the first millennium of the Common Era. It's another learning curve, but I don't mind.

Galina is working with a paint roller, spiffing the place up.

Never a dull moment. :^)
