Love those glossaries...
Nov. 17th, 2012 10:52 amCustomer-supplied glossaries just don't seem to be the blessing they used to be, years ago.
In one recent job, the content of a glossary I was given with an assignment was so far afield of what the assignment was about that I wondered why it had been sent along. And when I queried my client with some questions about terminology that wasn't in the glossary, the response I got was, basically, "if it's not in the glossary I sent you, then I don't know."
The job I'm working on today came with a glossary, and it plain stinks. No, let me take that back, as that's too generous a description. An eyeball review shows there to be a number of entries I would take issue with, not because of personal preferences (I happen to prefer "pneumohydraulic" to "pneumatic-hydraulic"), but because that are just plain wrong (e.g., leaving "pulse" out of "pulse solenoid valve").
Worse, I've allowed the silly thing to delay my getting down to work, as shown by this post (albeit this post is far from being "Exhibit A" in this regard).
I sputtered on a bit last night, ending the evening just 400 words short of my stated goal. Today's goal is a mere 600 words more ambitious than yesterday's (I'd like to be 3,400 source words closer to the goal by tomorrow morning). Unless I get a fire lit, however, I'm going to find myself behind the eight-ball.
