Finding a memory...
Mar. 9th, 2013 08:28 pmToday, I picked up a copy of The Memory Book, by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas, which I recall buying during college and was my first book on memory. The copyright page in the book says the book was originally published in 1974—which would have been my super-senior year at SUNY.
Before reading this book, my exposure to memory aids amounted to just a handful of such aids, like how the lines of the notes of the treble clef in music correspond to "Every Good Boy Deserves Fun."
At the time, the book certainly changed my outlook on life, even if it came a little late to help me out in the academic part of it as an undergraduate. I recall using quite a number of the techniques over the next few years, especially while performing on weekends at the Forks Hotel, near Buffalo.
I flipped through the book on the way home from being out and about and was amazed at the material that seemed new to me in the here-and-now.
A good investment of fifty cents, methinks.
Cheers...
