Botkin Hospital, Day 4
Aug. 11th, 2013 07:02 pmMore sticks, another IV, various visits. Not as intense as yesterday, however. I am apparently falling into a routine as well, and the hospital food is starting to taste good.
Today, I listened to five lectures (two on literature, two on the Civil War, and one on Shostakovich during the Great Patriotic War) and watched This Gun for Hire, which apparently was Alan Ladd's "introductory" film. Veronica Lake was the leading lady, playing the part of a magician night-club performer who is hired by a fellow that double-crossed Ladd's character. Lots of complications, straightforward plotting, and good pace. I personally think the screenwriters missed an opportunity to let Lake's character put her magic to good use in the course of the action, but that's doubtless just my opinion.
Lots more lectures to go, even if I'm surely running out of movies and television shows. Upgrading my iPad with a micro-SIM card to grab data directly from Beelline did not take into account Apple's constraint restricting downloads of apps or files to a maximum of 50 MB over a cellular network, even if you're signed up for gigabytes of traffic. On the other hand, Skype works without hiccups, which is good news for getting in touch with Galina.
Cheers...
