A day for sharpening the saw...
Nov. 1st, 2013 10:37 amAs I mentioned yesterday, I spent quite some time yesterday invoicing. And apparently, near the end of the ordeal (which should not be an ordeal), I actually managed to throw a few errors into the mix. Fortunately, my client is quite understanding, so it's not as if I've completely embarrassed myself, but just because someone is willing to overlook a shortcoming or two is no reason not to address said shortcomings.
It finally occurred to me last night that the solution to my problem is to dig a little into the org-mode documentation, and I've come up with a tentative plan that will change my invoicing procedure for my main client. Instead of listing the 80 or so individual documents in the invoice—the data for which I am basically copying "by hand" from my org-mode work file—I plan to have emacs generate an auditable schedule of documents that will be an attachment to what will, in effect, be a one-item invoice. This will also mesh well with the way BambooInvoice likes to see the world (invoices that fit on one page), so I'll still be able to take advantage of its recordkeeping features.
* * * This year's Halloween raiding parties were not as populous as last year (and make no mistake, our local trick-or-treaters wander the development's landscape in packs, like wolves), the result—at least partially, I suspect—of the copious rain that's fallen recently (five inches locally over the past 48 hours, as of early yesterday afternoon). This lack of doorbell-ringing traffic has left us with a problem: a surfeit of undistributed candy.
Now, this last might sound like I'm joking, but really I'm not. All through most of the year, the consumption of sugar in candy form in our house takes place in the form of the occasional chocolate bar. Having a stock of such candy on hand only provides a temptation that is hard to resist. I am seriously thinking of throwing out the rest of the bag, but the cheapskate in me doesn't want to. Nonetheless, if the bag stays, then there will be an uptick, however small, in consumption.
Decisions, decisions.
