But it's going to be a long one, especially since I have to hie myself to the dentist's office later in the day for installation of a permanent crown.
I've run my eyeballs over some results for the Google query "Chrome does not display text properly," and it would appear I am not the only person with this problem.

If you choose to auto detect, Google Chrome analyzes the content on the page to recommend the most suitable encoding.What has me flummoxed is why Chrome appears to completely ignore the line in my HTML that reads:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">However, there may be some subtleties that I'm missing. For now, I need to get cracking on stuff that helps pay the bills.
