The subject is not a complaint, just an acknowledgment of my "standing desk" work style—something I'm normally not aware of, but it entered my consciousness a few moments ago.

It was a Sunday spent doing editing work, which long-time readers of this journal will know is enough to set me off on a wild tangent, but I shall refrain from singing that chorus. This time.

My restraint is probably the result of a long conversation with Feht, in which we discussed a number of deadly boring subjects (the most exciting of which had to do with postmarks applied to stamps of the Old German States) and our perennial favorite, the state of our respective workloads in our chosen method of putting bread on the table.

Where exactly the link is between my restraint and our conversation has to do with the idea that restraint, as a general principle, is almost never a bad idea. This thought has recently been rearing its head on a regular basis, it seems, as opportunities to implement it have been numerous, and after the first few successful tries at holding back my unwanted two pence in various situations, both the desire to do so and the effort needed to refrain from doing so have considerably eased.

Is this making any sense?

Anyway...

It turns out that transferring files to my Raspberry Pi via ownCloud or BitTorrent Sync is hugely faster than attempting to transfer files to my Windows Server. It makes me wonder what I might accomplish by replacing the Windows Home Server software with Linux on the Windows Server hardware, but I've got no burning desire at the moment to figure out how to do this, and besides, it's a cinch that said hardware eats several times more juice than my Pi setup.

In the course of cleaning up some miscellaneous subdirectories, I ran across the beginning of my abortive NaNoWriMo effort from two years ago, and I'll be switched if it actually doesn't sound all that bad! I've raised its "visibility" in my list of projects (i.e., I've, like, put it on said list), and look forward to moving forward with the tale.

There's more work to do tomorrow morning, but both Galina and I will have to make sure the place is presentable for an insurance inspector. I have no idea what's involved, because I've never had such an inspector visit before. Hopefully, he/she won't waste too much of our time.

Cheers...
