The highlight of the day was making a butternut-squash-and-black-bean concoction and really trying to understand the recipe's use of spices (garlic, cumin, cayenne, cinammon, and orange zest). I thought the end result was pretty good.

I also tried my hand at making kale salad with the mung bean sprouts I picked up at the Hong Kong Market a few days ago. Apropos of which, I note that the price of mung bean sprouts at HKM is about 1/3 of what it is at a conventional grocery store. Of course, if I had the patience, I could cut the cost even more by doing the sprouts at home.

It occurs to me that the classic tale of "Stone Soup," told in the form of an instigator interacting with a group of people who get into the spirit of improvisation to create dinner for them all, may be considered as something of a "poster case" for this past week's LJ Idol prompt. It also occurs to me that my first trip to Baikonur (almost eleven years ago)—during which I happily did whatever was asked of me—would also have been a good candidate to address the prompt, although as "the new guy" during that gig, my ability to tack on an "and" after saying "yes" was limited.

Or—as I give it more thought as I write this post—maybe my "and" was implicit in the energy with which I did what was asked of me? This will require some additional thought.

Cheers...
