Dragging...
Jul. 9th, 2014 08:09 pmThird day of heavy translating, and it's getting old. Took a nap earlier today, and even though I really need to power through another 50 or so "segments" to get through this one particular document, I'm being stymied by the fact that most of the language consists of abbreviated words, at times abbreviated to a single letter.
And what's maddening is that there are plenty of good in-context examples of such abbreviations on the 'net, but nowhere does anyone ever bother to first "expand" said abbreviations. To my AP-stylebook-warped mind, this suggests that the abbreviations are in such common use (ever notice that nobody ever spells out, say, "Federal Bureau of Investigation" before using the abbreviation "FBI"?) that no expansion is ever necessary .
Grumble.
Highlight of the day (aside from the nap): driving to Home Depot with Galina to load a few bags of soil for the back yard.
I live an exciting life, no?
Cheers...
