Galina had me in the car within 15 minutes of my waking up, reminding me that "Daylight was burning." We drove across town (about a 30 mile trip) to Natalie's house, where I set to work painting. We worked until it seemed time to go eat a late lunch, whereupon halfway down the road to a Thai place I know in that neighborhood, we decided to stop by the Russian General Store on near Hillcroft and South Braeswood, pick up some vittles, and skedaddle home.

The work was a delightful break from translating (sort of), and it brought back college memories. For it was in the summer between my freshman and sophomore year that I had a serious falling out with my parents, so I sweet-talked my way into on-campus housing and a job as part of a crew painting dorm rooms. In retrospect, I learned more about the real world through that painting job than I had over my entire previous life.

I also learned how to paint a room, which certainly came in handy, today.

Our decision to call the work day to a close was a good one, too.

Back to the grind tomorrow...
