Los Ramirez in Clear Lake...
Aug. 20th, 2014 04:17 pmGalina and I found ourselves on Bay Area Boulevard yesterday, not far from El Camino, with stomachs empty. It then occurred to me that a clerk at the Wells Fargo branch there had recommended a Mexican place not far down El Camino, noting, in a very pleasant way, that "the place is always full of Mexicans." What further recommendation can one want?
A few minutes later, we were parked and walking into the place when it started to rain. Hard. We were seated immediately, and by the time we had a chance to look out the window, the water was already an inch or two deep on El Camino. A fellow sitting at the next table made a comment about the weather, directed (I think) at a woman who was sipping her iced tea at another table that was adjacent to us.
He followed his remark up with a more generalized comment, to the effect that the weather has been weird lately. So weird, he said, that he's sure that we're in for an early and particularly cold winter.
I took the liberty of asking him what it was about the weather that led him to this conclusion, and he told me that lately, when he leaves the house early in the morning to go to work, he's been getting a definite impression "in his bones" that it was already autumn.
He also pointed out that, although there have been hot days here and there recently, the summer has been surprisingly mild, in his opinion. I agreed, as did the woman at the adjacent table.
He continued to sit and nurse a beer while the rain fell, during which time Galina and I had a pretty good lunch for the price.
Cheers...
