Showing up...
Sep. 27th, 2014 08:51 pmWoody Allen is said to have quipped "Eighty percent of life is showing up." According to Wikiquote, the context has to do with actually completing something that you want to do (as in "write a novel"), because then "you are more than half way towards something good happening."
I think it also applies to, like, actually showing up physically when you say you will, as in the case of numerous contractors I've encountered all around the country (if New York, Colorado, and Texas is a fair implementation of "all around the country"). People say they will show up on a certain day at a certain time, and then don't, and then—to put the icing on the cake, so to speak—they reschedule and don't show up then, either.
Now, I'm not perfect. In fact, I feel like I'm standing squarely in the center of a glass house, because I completely forgot about a lunch I had planned with someone this past Thursday. But such no-show occurrences are rare for me, and I'm pretty confident I won't miss any further appointments any time soon.
Cheers...
