Merry Christmas! (Happy New Year!)
Jan. 7th, 2015 11:35 pmHad the Gregorian calendar not achieved the success that it has, today would be Christmas—assuming no other factors would have come into play to change things in the interim. Since the Orthodox Church never signed on to Pope Gregory's suggestion, however, today is Christmas for followers of that rite.
A curious side effect is the celebration, in Russia, of a holiday season that starts with the New Year, and this year, extends as one huge national holiday until Januuary 11th.
Needless to say, that puts something of a dent in my workload.
It also, on occasion, gets Galina and me invited to a gathering of Russians to celebrate the holiday, as it did tonight.
A good time was had by all, and I even managed to meet someone who, unbeknownst to me, I had been writing translations for (or his projects) for some time now. I am happy to report he appears to be a satisfied customer.
It's late, and tomorrow there will again be a thousand demands on my time.
But that'll be tomorrow. Right now, I'm headed for the pillow.
Cheers...
