Well, maybe it wasn't exactly "fantastic" in the way most people use the word, but the arrival of five jobs that hit my inbox this morning at 15-second intervals did make the world go a little unreal for a few minutes.

I managed to catch the trailer for the upcoming Matt Damon vehicle The Martian, and when I learned that the movie was based on a book, I had to go to Amazon and drop six bucks for a copy of the ebook. I finished it earlier this evening, and while it will never quite attain the same lofty literary status as, say, Joyce's Ulysses, it would appear to be a pretty solid piece of science fiction, with emphasis on the science, set against a story that made Robinson Crusoe's ordeal seem like a walk in the park.

Galina and I are watching episodes of Transporter: The Series on Netflix, and while it, too, is not very heavy in the "redeeming social value" department (pray, what part of the Great Wasteland is?), it does have a fairly consistent bent in its story lines (I like it when the good guy wins, and particularly so when it is done elegantly). I can almost forgive all the chase scenes in this mega-Audi commercial.

The weather dweebs promise wet weather this weekend. Here's hoping they're mostly wrong!
