Not only that...
Jul. 3rd, 2015 08:29 pmSo not only is my hardware being built so that only certain "approved" software can run on it, and operating systems constructed so that it's well-nigh impossible to change the name of the principal user's directory, but after looking at the shrinking space on my NEXTBOOK's storage and wondering just how I might go about getting rid of various parts of Office 365 that I never use (e.g., Access, Outlook, OneNote, and probably others), it turns out to be like the old joke that ends, "Come to think of it, you can't get there from here!"
In any event, today turned out to be a day mostly devoted to sharpening the saw, in the specific form of "configuring the computer." Installing software was one thing; editing startup files was another (and while both emacs and AutoHotKey start up with no hiccups, I really haven't had a chance to put all of the macros, etc. through the wringer, so you never know...).
I did manage to do about 4/5 of a job on the new machine, which convinces me that I'll need a second screen to actually get any kind of recognizable volume of work done. I spent some time investigating various apps that swear they let you extend a screen onto an Android tablet, and even downloaded a couple to try them out, but one didn't actually do what I wanted and the second flat out didn't work, which made me very leery of shelling out the shekels for similar software that, in almost all cases, had more one-star evaluations than five-star ratings.
The plate is rather full, which is not atypical for a holiday weekend.
Just gotta keep chuggin'... Tomorrow's going to be a big day!
