Baby steps...
Aug. 27th, 2015 10:38 pmIt occurred to me the other day that Galina's two year phone gig with Verizon is coming to a close in the near future (or perhaps even just ended), so now we are in a position to tell Verizon to take their rates and sell 'em to someone else.
I did a "dry run" of firing up a new phone soon after Alla arrived, purchasing what appears to be a capable Android phone and a modest plan with one of the many MVNOs that offer plans that turn out to cost less, in the long run, especially if you don't download crazy amounts of data or communicate with the world exclusively via SMS.
I'd heard a lot of good things about the OnePlus One unit, and since the OnePlus Two just made its debut the other day, I figured there would be a fair number of One phones being sold on eBay by people who just had to get their paws on a Two. So I managed to snag one at a reasonably good price.
My One arrived today.
It's got a pretty impressive set of specs, and would appear to offer an attractive way of dumping Verizon. After less than a day with the unit, I can tell you it works fine (so far) with a SIM card from Consumer Cellular, an AT&T MVNO from way back.
If the series of steps I have planned work out, Galina and I will be Verizon-free around the beginning of October. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Cheers...
