Moving along in fits and starts...
Sep. 8th, 2015 09:56 pmOver the past two days, I've managed to translate just over 4,000 words of the Slow Work™, which is about 4x the tempo I had originally assigned myself, but over the weekend, I realized that if I am to make the stated deadlines, I'm a-gonna have to step up my game.
As it stands, I could probably go back to my original slow pace, but the fact is that "normal" work has been pretty slow; today's slug of The Routine Stuff™ didn't amount to much, payday-wise, so the more of the Slow Work™ that I do in less time (keeping an eye on quality, etc.) the sooner I'll get paid for it. I don't know how things are going in other language combinations, but pretty much all of the translators who work in Russian and English that I've spoken with lately report hard times.
The BulletJournal experiment is going well, which is to say that I've used it for just about a month and the notebook hasn't found a place under a pile of papers. Further, it's actually become a useful resource, since I've started to jot down lists of various "good things to know" that, in a pinch, could be used as source material for memorization.
My first call the other day on the OnePlus One was to Feht, and for a short time, there, I thought I had bought a unit with a defective microphone, because Maria (who picked up the phone) couldn't hear me. I don't know exactly what happened, and have not the slightest notion of how it might have come about, but since then nobody else has had a problem hearing my end of whatever conversation I happen to be engaged in, and that's certainly good news.
Tai chi went well this evening, if for no other reason that for the second session in a row, my knee has not complained once (not seriously, at least). It was a good workout, during which I got quite a bit of practice with a drill called the "diagonal fly" (or "diagonal flying") and some time working with senior students on controlling balance (I lose pretty much all the time, but it's educational).
I should probably start getting ready to hit the rack. Tomorrow's going to be a big day.
Cheers...
