One of those days where...
Mar. 30th, 2016 10:32 pm...you can't really complain about what got accomplished, but you wish you had accomplished more.
This, in light of the fact that I have a bunch of time-sink follow-ups coming up.
<sigh>
However, looking on the bright side, it will give me an opportunity to see how productive I can be, even through follow-ups.
* * * In other news, I've been running Ubuntu 14.04 on my Acer netbook without complaint for the past while, and didn't really think about the latest update, which apparently tried to upgrade the OS to 16.04.
The key word there is "tried."
I shut down the system last night, and booting the system this morning resulted in the display of only a desktop. No menu bar, no launcher, no clock, no notification area. Nada. Just a desktop, with the four icons that were already on my desktop before the update. Unfortunately, said icons are of limited utility.
I've asked about this online, but have received no responses. My initial idea toward a solution would be to run a terminal, but Ctrl+Alt+T (the hotkey that's supposed to launch a terminal) does not work. A cursory search on Google on how to otherwise run a terminal came up empty.
I suspect that ultimately, I will have to boot Ubuntu from a CD and then copy files from the hard drive so as not to lose some as-yet-unbacked-up data from the machine.
I can't wait.
Cheers...
